[* Baptised 25 Jan 1836, Cruden.
Cruden Kirk records -
28 Nov 1853 - accused Mary Hutchison, residing at Berrymoss, confessed to
fornication with John Rennie, residing in Auchleuchries.
21 Apr 1861 - admonishment of Mary Hutchison and John Simpson, Auchaton.
30 Jun 1861 - admonished again - confessed repentance and were restored to
communion.
Death cert. - senile decay. Informant John Simpson, widower.]Mary
Hutchison, second child of James H and Mary Castel, had two illeg.
children -
James Rennie or Hutchison, born 1854, and
Mary Ann Hutchison, or Simpson who, I think, died about three years
old. Mary Ann's father was John Simpson of Achaton, and we think Mary H
married him and moved with him to Glasgow, where they lived at 7, Kinning
Street.
Mary died 29th July 1908 at Mormet, Harriet Lodge, Stepps, Cadder, when her
husband was described as "Gardener". We have never traced them
further.
For the flimsiest of reasons I suspect that James Rennie went to
Manchester
and founded a successful business which, among other things produced a
series of Lathe Tools embodying "Rennite" tips - a form of Tungsten or
Titanium Carbide, actually developed by Metropolitan Vickers in Manchester.
Something else I've never followed up.
