1851 census:-
Jean Shand, Mother, Widow, 80, Farmer's mother, b. Gamrie. She is shown as Farmer's mother as James Kelman was absent for the census and Jane is shown as the Farmer. I'm sure you will know that names varied considerably in those days and Jane/Jean were fairly much interchangeable. Jean Shand must have died before 1855 so I was unable to get a death certificate for her.
