*David purchased Greenfield farm
in Monquhitter Parish, the exact date I am unsure of, but he married
Margaret Cheyne in 1835 and their first son was born in 1839 at Greenfield.
They had at least one older child, a daughter, but her place of birth is
unknown to me. They were also listed in the 1841 census at that address. It
seems that the original purchase was relatively small but they added upper
Greenfield to it and in the 1871 census David is named as landed proprietor
of 185 acres. IM to GH November 06.
My father said that he was told that
Greenfield was purchased with the proceeds of cattle, purchased and driven
to markets. We do not know for certain who was the successful cattle
trader, be it David & Elspet or David & Magaret Cheyne.
