In the 1861 census he is an agricultural labourer at Killoch (near
Invercauld House). [By 1871 he had presumably moved to Windsor.]
In 1881, a groom, [in royal service], living in 3 Brick Buildings, New
Windsor.
In Braemar in 1882 when he informed the registrar of his mother's death.
[c1870] married Annie Whittaker, who was born in Slough. In 1891 and 1902
(daughter's marriage certificate) described as coachman.
In 1908 living at 55 Queen's Road, Windsor (brother George's will). There on
22 March 1910 when he signed his will, being described as a Royal Pensioner.
Testament: Whole estate to his wife. Executor: son James William H;
Witnesses: Maud Margaret H; Jessie E H.
